COMMITMENT 2
EDUCATIONAL, CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND ARTISTIC DYNAMICS
Making the label a vehicle for educational, cultural, social and artistic momentum
The Grand Site is an inhabited area where practices and customs evolve in an exceptional setting. The repetition of daily life can alter emotions, gradually erasing the exceptional and making the extraordinary seem ordinary. This observation has prompted the Grand Site, alongside local authorities and primary and secondary schools, to increase the number of activities aimed at schoolchildren. Raising awareness among younger generations of the landscape, heritage and environmental values of the Grand Site is key to its future.
Actions taken
A multi-themed educational programme on the Grand Site, developed in partnership with the French Ministry of Education, is offered to schools in the area. Using dedicated teaching materials, this programme offers learning modules in the classroom, at the Grand Site visitor centre, or in the heart of the countryside.
As part of its management plan, the Grand Site de France Conca d'Oru, Patrimonio vineyard – Gulf of Saint-Florent has always aimed to pass on the values of the Grand Site to younger generations.
In 2021, the Grand Site Joint Association established initial contacts with the national education system in order to carry out several one-off projects (drawing competitions, classroom activities) with schools in the Grand Site area.
Building on the success of these activities from 2021 to 2023, a full-fledged educational programme design project was envisaged. In October 2024, a partnership agreement was signed between the French Ministry of Education and the Grand Site.
The purpose of the latter is to structure collaborations between the Grand Site de France Conca d'Oru, Patrimonio vineyard – Gulf of Saint-Florent and the National Education structures, within the framework of education on the environment, the territory, sustainable development and ecological transition for pupils at each level.
This educational programme will run over three academic years, combining classroom teaching and activities, school trips to the Grand Site and visits to the Maison du Grand Site. It will be implemented in 2025 and will be open to all primary and secondary schools in Nebbiu and Conca d'Oru (Patrimonio, Oletta, Saint Florent, Rutali, Murato and Santo-Pietro).
To support this teaching, educational booklets for pupils and teachers have been designed in collaboration with the education authority and schools.
Their objectives are to:
- Provide teachers and pupils in the Grand Site area with a tool for education on the environment, the local area, sustainable development and ecological transition.
- Enable pupils to learn more about their own local area, using educational worksheets in which the topics covered in the school curriculum are transposed to the local level.
- Define and implement educational initiatives and programmes related to the issues and objectives of the Grand Site management plan.
- Support and assist educational initiatives developed within the Grand Site area and led by teachers.
Residents' perceptions are sought and expressed through photo and drawing competitions to capture and share their experiences.
Finally, through interviews and photo reports, professionals and local residents alike are showcased on the Grand Site's social media channels: «Active Women of the Grand Site» / «Residents» Voices".

ANIMATION AND EVENTS
Raise the profile and visibility of the Grand Site de France among local and external audiences through activities and events.
While the aesthetic dimension attracts visitors, the historical depth and geographical understanding of the Grand Site become apparent with the first observations of the landscape. By increasing the number of events and activities in the area, the Grand Site aims to provide visitors and residents with the keys to better understanding the area, thereby enabling them to share the values and ’spirit of the place« of the Grand Site.
Actions taken
Through its programme of events, The Grand Site offers introductions to landscape reading, painting and writing workshops, hikes to discover the natural and cultural heritage, meetings with local artisans and farmers, etc..
The Grand Site also organises a festive day to share and convey the values of the Grand Site. The first edition of the «Fête du Grand Site» took place on 17 May 2025. The event focused on local produce and wine-growing landscapes, showcasing the listed site at the heart of the Grand Site: «Conca d'Oru and the Patrimonio vineyards». Other annual editions will follow with different themes, all focusing on the rich heritage of the Grand Site.
