The cultural identity of the region

Villages

The villages of the Grand Site are strongly and harmoniously integrated into the cultural identity of the region. Their silhouettes, often perched on promontories, mark the landscape as visual landmarks, serving as both points of interest and observation posts.

Villages in the landscape

a harmony between buildings and nature

The village buildings, uniform and consistent, reflect a shared architectural style. Each village reveals, to those who know where to look, discreet stopping places: a square, a belvedere, a simply designed viewpoint, ideal for contemplation. From there, the Conca d'Oru, the Patrimonio vineyards and the Gulf of Saint-Florent can be seen from different angles.

From the village centres, the gaze naturally extends to the silhouettes of neighbouring villages. This interplay of visibility weaves a continuous visual tapestry: from Poggio d'Oletta to Patrimonio, from Patrimonio to Barbaggio. In Farinole, this principle is applied on a more intimate scale to its hamlets.

The bright colours of the houses and churches contrast with the green backdrop of the landscape, reinforcing their presence without distorting it. From the gulf, the citadel and the old village of Saint-Florent stand out as a strong anchor point in the wider landscape. The citadel, with its strategic position and size, structures the surrounding views while offering a remarkable viewpoint over the gulf and the natural amphitheatre of the Conca d'Oru.
